Connect a custom domain
Updated
Your site starts on a free Pixexl address. To put it on your own domain, connect the domain in the dashboard and add a DNS record or two where you bought it. HTTPS is set up for you.
Before you start
- Deploy the site at least once (how).
- Have access to your domain's DNS settings: usually at the company you bought the domain from (GoDaddy, Namecheap, 123 Reg, Cloudflare…).
1. Enter the domain
In your project, go to Site → Domains and enter the domain under Custom domain:
- A subdomain, like
shop.example.com, needs one record. - A bare domain, like
example.com, needs two, andwww.example.comredirects to it.
2. Add the DNS records
The dashboard shows the exact records to add. Copy each one into your DNS settings as shown: its type, its name and its value.
For a bare domain, the first record can't be a normal CNAME, so your provider may call it ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening. If it offers none of these, ask its support how to point a bare domain at another address.
3. Wait for it to connect
The dashboard checks the records for you. Most domains connect within an hour; a change of DNS can take up to a day to reach everywhere. Once the records are found, the certificate for HTTPS is issued and your site is live on your domain.
It isn't connecting
- Check each record matches exactly, with no extra dot or space, and no old record with the same name left in place.
- If your DNS is on Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied.
- Still stuck after a day? Write to us and include your domain.
